Diverse Heterocyclic ring establishes a major portion of organic chemistry works due to its contribution and applications in several fields stretching from insecticides, polymers, agrochemicals, dyes, and abundant, mini reviews in medicinal chemistry.


Many of the biologically important molecules like, vitamins, alkaloids, chlorophyll, nucleic acids, as well as, daily consumed caffeine in tea-coffee and of course majority of the drugs used in the therapy are heterocyclic compounds [1]. Many of the important and distinguished journals pertaining to medicinal and organic chemistry deal with one or the other heterocyclic scaffold every year [2].


The magnitude of research undertaken globally is exponential and the knowledge keeps on expanding. Thus, the information needs to be frequently updated and organized. Therefore, getting updated mini reviews in medicinal chemistry on a range of diverse heterocyclic moieties, compiled and published as special issue like this could be a useful value-addition to the subject and can be used as a source of updated information by many researchers in the field [3].


In this special issue, we have concentrated on quality medicinal chemistry articles focusing on new developments in various therapeutic areas, diverse heterocyclic ring systems [4]. The response to the issue from contributing authors has been heartening and led to 05 quality articles. To accommodate them it has been decided to publish this special issue dealing with their chemistry, synthesis, biological activity spectrum and in few cases even to case studies focused on particular system or biological activity.


A specific paper is for Diversified Synthetic Pathway of 1, 4-Dihydropyridines: A Class of Pharmacologically Important Molecules.


In this article the different synthetic pathway for one of the most important and interesting heterocyclic ring systems 1,4-Dihydropyridine. It shows diverse pharmacological action at several receptors, channels, and enzymes.


Another paper is dedicated to systematically evaluation of biological and pharmacological properties of various substituted pyrimidine and collate these findings to be used as a guide for future structure-activity relationship and mode of action studies.


Other review is for systematize the information available in the literature, including patents, regarding the benefits exerted by the combination of these two pharmacophores into single molecules. Another review on updates of new research on tanshinones, focusing in their synthesis, biological activity on noncommunicable diseases and drug delivery systems, in order to support future research on the clinical applications of tanshinones.


The quality publications by the Journal are the result of a joint effort made by a dedicated editorial team members, reviewers and specially authors. We also thank the valuable comments and suggestions given by the reviewers to improve the quality and scientific perspective of the articles. Medicinal chemistry is a complex phenomenon. Computational chemistry is also a complex phenomenon. The present special issue is an attempt to build up the bridge of simplicity.


The research work is a cutter creating a pattern on the surface of uncertainty. Sometimes the false is hidden near the pattern. Sometimes nature is also hidden near the pattern. Consensus is a word that is originated from medicine. Molecular docking is the basic term of computational chemistry. These conceptions had faced each other here, in this special issue.


Medicinal Chemistry faced electrochemistry; paradigm faced virtual screening; virtual screening faced with multi-scale modeling. The theoretical and practical results of the research activity of a variety of laboratories give the gigantic labyrinth of possible successful applying as well as examples of shocking mistakes sometimes.


The authors of articles of the this special issue provide the reader newest results in the fields where they are working. Every article has history, logic, perspectives and relationship with other articles of the given special issue, mini reviews in medicinal chemistry. The QSPR analysis of the half-wave potentials [2] helps to solve some medicinal tasks. Min-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry Journal is one of the extremely important and widely circulated journals of Bentham Science Publishers. The current thematic issue has been focused on the role of Phenols and Polyphenols on human health. Phenolic and polyphenolic derivatives constitute an interesting class of synthetic as well as natural organic compounds that possess miraculous antioxidant properties as such because of their ability to quench or reduce the free radicals which are generated due to pro-oxidant-induced oxidative stress which, in turn, accelerate numerous associated chronic diseases.


Additionally, these compounds also act as antibiotics and posses a wide range of biological activity such as anti-cancer, anti-tumor, mini reviews in medicinal chemistry, anti-bacterial, antifungal, mini reviews in medicinal chemistry anti-diarrheal, anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory activities etc.


In spite of great importance, these compounds also exhibit adverse effects on diverse biological systems particularly when taken in a larger amount. For example, several flavonoid derivatives inhibit thyroid peroxidase an enzyme and thus interfere the biosynthesis of thyroid hormone and ultimately thyroid function.

Among bisphenols, bisphenol A BPA is frequently used to make a hard, clear plastic known as polycarbonate, which has been used in many consumer products including water bottles, baby bottles, metal-based food and beverage cans etc.


FDA also recognized some substantial uncertainties regarding their potential implications for human health effects. A number of reports have shown their toxicity behavior and disclosed the detrimental face of this class of compounds. Therefore, mini reviews in medicinal chemistry, efforts have been made to explore the importance of phenolic compounds in human life and some considerable facts associated to human health through various articles contributed by diverse range of authors.


Here is the brief summary of the six contributed articles: Arbi et al. Their potential to induce skin depigmentation by evaluating their anti-tyrosinase activity has also been explored.
